In therapeutic and caregiving relationships, it is essential to meet both the suffering and the inherent wholeness of those we serve. At the same time, our own internal experiences – emotions, reactions, and stories – inevitably arise in response to our patients. Learning how to include rather than suppress or bypass our inner experience allows for new possibilities in healing from a more grounded, open, and compassionate space.
In this experiential class, led by Marcy Vaughn of The 3 Doors, we will explore meditation practices drawn from the Tibetan Bön tradition based on the view that we are inherently whole, complete, and compassionate beings, as is everyone we meet. As we recognize and rest in the refuge of our natural mind, we cultivate resilience, inner spaciousness, and compassionate presence.
Drawing from the foundational teachings of The 3 Doors, Marcy will introduce practical and profound meditation methods designed to help you connect with your natural mind, a spacious inner refuge from which healing capacities emerge. These practices support one's ability to hold space for others and resonate with their inherent completeness while tending to the suffering that is present.
The session will include a brief overview of The 3 Doors approach to meditation, a guided practice, time for reflection and sharing, and an opportunity to learn more about upcoming offerings to mature your meditation practice.
Marcy Vaughn has been a meditation practitioner for more than 50 years and is a senior student of Tibetan Bön meditation master Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. She has edited four of his books that form the core teachings for The 3 Doors, a secular organization bringing the wisdom and compassion of ancient teachings into everyday life. Marcy is one of the founding senior teachers for The 3 Doors and over the last 16 years she has taught seven cohorts of the Academy, The 3 Doors' signature 2.5-year meditation training program. Additionally, she trains and mentors teachers to offer these practices to others.
Together with her husband, Gabriel Rocco, Marcy created and teaches The 3 Doors Compassion Project, a 9-month program designed to help participants build a meditation practice in order to connect with inner resources in the face of health-related stress as well as family, professional, and societal challenges. Marcy holds a master's degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University and currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she is a therapist. She brings a teaching style that is warm, grounded, and deeply intuitive – often speaking directly to the heart of what participants are experiencing.
